If you can't get the sound you want out of this versatile little amp, you are just not trying. Purists will argue that only tube amps can deliver good electric guitar sound, but then will use a dozen foot pedals to adjust the sound!

The built-in effects are excellent, although you may find you want to continue using an old favorite stompbox or 2 in your guitar-to-amp chain (there is no FX loop).
Two drawbacks to this amp - plugging in to the headphone/recording stereo jack in the back disconnects the amp, no way to bypass this without voiding the warranty. Second drawback - to update the software and get more preset tones you need to use one of the FBV MkII foot controllers, and the updating software is very quirky and hard to get to work with some computers.
This amp is plenty loud for practice with a band - it can easily be heard over a drummer - and if you are using it for gigs, it will work for small venues, or you are probably already mic-ing your amp to the PA anyway for big places.
One big advantage of a solid state amp is that adjusting the master volume does not change the tone, so you can get that screaming-distorted sound or warm fuzzy tone at a low volume, something you can't do with a tube amp unless you use a speaker attenuator. close [-]
