The SoundCode Encoder offers a fast way to encode audio as AC-3 and WAV files from a Pro Tools session, ready for use with DVD audio or video authoring jobs, CD burning jobs, or any other application that uses the Dolby Digital standard. Because the SoundCode Encoder operates as an AudioSuite plug-in, users can encode Dolby Digital faster than genuine time to accelerate their workflow. SoundCode encodes to all AC-3 file types, including AC-3 with time code. SoundCode also encodes to 16- or 24-bit stereo interleaved WAV files so users can lay back the Dolby Digital audio to digital tape or make an audio disc for playback on a consumer stereo system that has a Dolby Digital decoder. The SoundCode Encoder also offers the option of importing the encoded Dolby Digital audio back into the Pro Tools timeline, where it can be decoded and monitored using the real-time SoundCode Decoder.
Punch In/Out Capabilities
SoundCode includes a time-saving Punch In/Out encoding feature that allows users to punch in fixes to an existing AC-3 file. If the audio for a two-hour program has already been encoded, but one line of dialog needs to be replaced, SoundCode can encode just that line, without having to re-encode the entire two-hour soundtrack. SoundCode then automatically "punches in" that line to the correct location within the previously encoded file.
A Full Range of Decoding Options
The SoundCode Decoder functions as either a real-time RTAS or HTDM plug-in, or a nonreal-time AudioSuite plug-in. The real-time SoundCode Decoder allows users to decode and monitor audio during Pro Tools session playback. Combined with Pro Tools video playback capabilities, the real-time SoundCode Decoder can be used as part of a mastering-quality confidence monitoring system. Using SoundCode as an AudioSuite plug-in, Pro Tools users can decode all or a portion of an audio file, or view the metadata of an AC-3 file. The SoundCode Decoder offers four decoder modes: line (standard consumer decoder mode), custom (which lets you adjust the dynamic range compression), RF (for RF television feeds), and data stream (which passes the Dolby Digital data stream and formats it as stereo PCM digital audio). It also rocks a wide bunch of downmix options and listening modes that simulate consumer listening setups, including mono, stereo, Dolby Surround-compatible stereo, front only, and stereo in which the center channel is mixed to the left and right. The SoundCode Decoder delivers lots of metering for output level, dynamic range compression, dialog normalization, and CRC error detection.
