The Rane SM 82S mixer manages to pack in the power and range of a bigger (and more expensive) mixer into a mixer the size of a rack-space and the thickness of a deep-dish pizza. . . or 5.25" deep, at least. But for all its economy of size, the SM 82S possesses a remarkable number of features and capabilities. Incredibly Bulletproof and Versatile
The Rane SM 82S is incredibly intense and versatile. The SM 82S offers the equivalent of a 16-channel mixer in one rack space! Each of the SM 82S' eight stereo (two channel) in channels sport a stereo rotary input Level control, a stereo aux Send level control slider and a left to right balance control slider. When one mono input is used, balance control acts as a pan pot. The aux return section has a rotary return Level control and a slide control for left to right Balance. The out stage of the SM 82S includes a rotary out Level control and a slide control for left to right balance.

Really simple and Expandable
The human engineering applied to the SM 82S makes it extremely really simple to operate. The segregation of function between rotary and slide controls (rotary for all input and output Levels and slide for Balance and Send) makes it brain-dead really simple to use, even in the dark. The SM 82S is fully expandable using the 1/4" Tip-ring-sleeve Main Expand In and Out jacks. Expansion is as brain-dead simple as connecting a 1/4" Tip-ring-sleeve jumper cable from the first unit's Expand Out jack to the second unit's Expand In jack. Now, two SM 82S units make a 16 channel stereo (32 input) line level Mixer in just two rack spaces. Or, get 24 channels (48 inputs) in three rack spaces. You get it!

Instrument Mixer or Submixer
As a stereo line input mixer, Rane's SM 82S is ideally suited for keyboard setups, synthesizer expander modules, and drum machines, plus such things as effects mixing in guitar racks. The SM 82S also functions as an excellent submixer for stereo line ins and effects to a larger console.
