Toontrack SDX Roots - Brushes, Rods & Mallets was recorded in the world-famous Blackbird Studios in Nashville, TN. A recording destination for the who's who of the music industry, Blackbird Studios is known for its massive mic collection, around 1400 microphones, and selection of the best recording gear through out the ages.

World-class microphone selection
The microphone set up used to record Toontrack SDX Roots - Brushes, Rods & Mallets is amazing, thanks to the massive collection at Blackbird Studios. Multiples of microphones were used on every drum, 16 mono channels were used, plus 7 stereo channels. The microphones used ranged from Shure SM57s, to the classic AKG 19, and a pair of Telefunken 251s. The speaker from a Yamaha NS-10 studio monitor was even used, it was flipped out of phase to produce enhanced lower frequencies of kick drums. Completely cool.
