Why We Love This Product!

If You Want to Use a Ribbon Live, This is the Mic to Use!

The R-122 was the world's first phantom powered ribbon microphone, delivering all of the warm, totally natural tone of Royer's R-121 ribbon microphone, but with 15 dB more Gain and Impedance Matching circuitry that allows the ribbon to operate at its full potential regardless of the preamplifier you plug it into! The R-122 Live takes that same groundbreaking design and pairs it with a thicker ribbon that's perfect for live use.

Royer R-122 Live at a Glance:
    • Ribbon-Velocity Live Microphone
    • Minimal Off-Axis Coloration
    • Rejection

Ribbon-Velocity Live Microphone
The Royer R-122 Live - like most ribbons - sports a figure 8 polar pattern. Its sensitivity is roughly equal to a good dynamic microphone, and it exhibits a warm, realistic tone and flat frequency response. When it came to design time, Royer threw out the molds and took a fresh approach to ribbons using cutting-edge materials and cutting edge construction techniques. The Royer R-122 Live again redefines ribbon microphones, bringing the Royer sound that's quickly becoming mythical to live stages everywhere.

Rejection
Royer ribbon microphones are figure-8, picking up sound from the front and rear of the microphone, and rejecting sounds approaching from a) the left and right sides of the microphone, b) the top of the microphone, and c) the bottom of the microphone. These are extremely effective dead zones that engineers use to isolate instruments by positioning the microphones in such a way that the dead zones face, and cancel, offending sound sources.

Minimal Off-Axis Coloration
There's a lot of sound on a live stage and you can't entirely control for off-axis details getting into microphones, even ribbons. Most microphones color off-axis info in highly unflattering ways, which is why bleed can sound so nasty. Ribbons don't color off-axis info, so any bleed that manages to get into your onstage Royers will sound natural, not harsh or colored.
