I had an old parallel MTP AV and was getting strange MIDI mis-firings. I tried to reinstall the parallel drivers, but never was successful in getting it reconnected. My worry about the MIDI Express was that my old gear needed SMTE clock, even though it said it supported MTC.
I bought this with cautious hopes...and it works GREAT!
My old gear synched right up, the MIDI Express is always "on" with its USB power, and I don't hear any latency.
I'm quite happy.
