There is no best, only personal preference... yada yada yada. After listening to these monitors against Focal CMS 65, CMS 50, Adam A7x, Genelec 6010 I left with the impression that these monitors are a game changer.
The first set I listened to was Focal CMS 65. Wow, very balanced, full, clear. Enjoyable to listen to and had a great picture of the individual parts of the mix. CMS 50's sounded choked in comparison, not sure if something was wrong with the room or positioning. Then the KH 120's, wow - I thought a sub was on, but I was assured there was no sub on. Similarly balanced, full, and clear like in the CMS 65's. The A7x's sounded thin and too bright, but the midrange was spectacular. Genelecs sounded like the CMS 50's which further confirmed my suspicion that something was wrong with the 50's, again maybe positioning.
So while the 65's sounded beautiful, it was the KH 120's that shocked me and made me feel wonderful inside. I felt like I could hear the gut of the singer, the juiciness of the Fender Precision bass, and could hear the decay from the fat snare sound trail off slowly. AND all this from such a small footprint. UNBELIEVABLE.
Great way to impress clients too. It's as close as you can get to what a midfield perspective could get you but in a nearfield speaker. I will purchase as I'm slightly obsessing over them right now.
