Fender Standard Jazz Bass: Play the Classic

Fender Standard Jazz Bass: Play the Classic

What do you want in a bass? Great bass sound. Of course. Amazing comfort? Absolutely. Easy playability? Check. Fender's Jazz Bass gives you all three. Probably why it's still going strong after a half-century. From Geddy Lee to Jaco Pastorius, bass greats of all musical genres have rocketed the J-Bass to cult status. Over the years, Fender has steadily tweaked it, but has never lost sight of what makes this bass a classic. The latest Standard Series Jazz Bass includes several improvements.

Fender introduced the Jazz Bass in 1960 as stablemate to their Jazzmaster guitar. Intended as "Deluxe" models, both featured a comfortable offset-waist body design that was considered radical at the time. Compared to Fender's single-pickup Precision Bass, the Jazz offers a wider range of sounds from its two single-coil pickups (each with two pole pieces per string). The Jazz Bass thus has stronger treble and richer midrange - and less of the fundamental harmonic. That famous J-Bass sound, combined with its narrow fast-action neck makes the Jazz Bass ideal for soloing.

You get the the best of old and new with the Standard Jazz Bass, including a vintage-style bridge, tinted neck, three-ply parchment pickguard and '70s-style headstock logo. A modern "C" shape neck and medium jumbo frets give you smooth playability, and Fender Standard J-Bass pickups dish out genuine growling J-Bass tone. Fender has also shielded the cavities to give you quieter operation and reduced hum.

There's a reason the Fender Jazz Bass is a Standard. Pick one up and find out for yourself.
