Don't Be a Big Baby, Buy a Big Baby!
At a perfect 15/16-scale, the Taylor Big Baby is the size you'd expect a Dreadnought guitar made by IKEA to be. Nonetheless, there's something special about the Taylor Big Baby that makes just about everyone who plays one for a while fall madly in love with this scaled-down guitar. The funny thing is, if you just play one for the first time, or even see a Big Baby in a stand, you probably won't notice right away that it's at all smaller than a traditional dreadnought. And, while it certainly is a great guitar for beginners and people who themselves are on a slightly smaller scale, the thing most people really love about the Big Baby is fairly conventional: the Taylor Big Baby has to be one of the most comfortable acoustic guitars kick back on the couch and play. You see, the thing about full-sized dreadnoughts is that they're too bulky to curl up on the couch with, which seriously limits the amount of time you can chill in front of the TV and casually strum. That's no good at all. On the other hand, strumming a Big Baby is one of those essential creature comforts, like kicking off your shoes or wearing a perfectly broken-in pair of jeans. Nothing earth-shattering, groundbreaking, or game-changing here, but being comfy while you play is a seriously important consideration.
Now, that's not to say that the Big Baby isn't an excellent sounding guitar, it's a solid-spruce-topped Taylor, after all. And no one's saying that you couldn't take it on stage and perform wonderfully with it (lots of people do). But, if you're looking for a simple acoustic dreadnought-style guitar that's a real pleasure to play, then you'll find exactly what you're looking for when you pick up a Taylor Big Baby.
